Online Support Network

PIPA’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/PIPAssociation, allows you to share your story, share your photos of how far you prem has come and connect with other families who have had similar experiences to you own.  It also shares stories and information that may assist new prem parents as well parents of older prems who children are still dealing with the challenges of their early arrival. PIPA also shares information in relation to awareness days relevant to preterm birth and important research being done in Australia

PIPA seeks to raise awareness of preterm birth by promoting World Prematurity Day each year not just to those families who have experienced preterm birth but to the community as a whole.

PIPA also seeks to educate the community about the costs of preterm birth, the state of play of preterm birth in Australia and countries around the world and important research being done to prevent preterm birth and improve the health outcomes of those babies born too soon, too small, or too sick.

 

In-hospital support

Caring parents who have experienced the birth of a premature baby are available to visit you at the hospital to offer support, guidance, and hope. Alternately you can talk with one of these volunteers over the phone. These wonderful volunteers are happy for you to ask questions and for you to share your thoughts and feelings. Only another prem parents really knows what it is like to have a premature baby.

Parent Meetings and get togethers

Pipa meets with parents at Ronald McDonald House Herston on the first Wednesday of the month from 1.30 pm. And at Ronald McDonald House South Brisbane on the last Friday of the month from 12 noon.

Annual “Prems in the Park” family picnic held in New Farm Park Brisbane on the first Sunday in November. Parents of babies / children born preterm, family, and friends are all invited. A fantastic opportunity to meet new friends and reunite with friends from the nursery.

Gather My Crew

Gather My Crew is a registered  Australian charity which helps people in need of support coordinator practical help from their personal network through a free mobile app. It can turn offers of “let me know what I can do” into the help that is really needed.
